About this deal

Sometimes the valve seals can dry up or go bad over time. This essentially makes the adjusting wheel useless and can make it so your lighter is going full blast, like a little flame thrower. It eliminates the ability to make the flame smaller. They’re still functional, but they’ll go through the fuel faster, and you’ll make a really big flame. Not all old lighters have this happen, but after taking a poll in a forum, about half of people’s BIC lighters stored over a long period of time had this happen. How to keep BIC lighters from losing fuel From testing, I’ve noticed that the firelighters are very densely woven which shows how well made they are as this feature means they last longer. Some others can be too light and shed everywhere so they don’t give you as long a burn. On that note, I’m really impressed with how long these firelighters burn for – definitely enough time to get your fire really going – in a bbq starter that is raging you get only a few minutes – this is because the charcoal then fans the flame and speeds the burn process – of course this doesn’t matter as your charcoal is already alight. In tough conditions that are a little damp (what you’re no doubt far more interested in) you can realistically expect a bright strong flame anywhere from 5 to 8 minutes from my personal testing. You also don’t need many to get a fire started – three or four would be fine depending on how big your fire/bbq is – also factor damp – yes these will even burn strong enough for charcoal that you’ve let get damp – somehow on my Uniflame charcoal bbq the charcoal got damp in the cupboard under the grill, and these still got the charcoal going!. So great value for money and a genuine practical product – I have done my best to state the negatives, there just aren’t many. It’s a real step up from the nasty paraffin firelighters that are white and make your hands stink! Here’s what happens when you put a few in a bundle and place a bbq starter full of big lumpwood charcoal on top in about 5 minutes: Yes, you can rely on BIC Lighters after long term storage if you store them properly. I don’t rely on just a BIC lighter though. No, I store a bunch of BIC lighters. I also store matches, a ferro rod, and a blow torch. I love BIC lighters, but out of 10 lighters, you might have a couple that fail. If you’ve only got one or two, you’re not prepared. BIC’s are my favorite, so I store a lot of them, but I also store all the other fire starter methods. Buy BIC Lighters in Bulk

They’re very easy to light and last a good amount of time – enough to get a good fire started! These ones also carry no chemical smell. Above is a diagram of a BIC lighter. It works by turning the spark wheel against the stone, flint and steel, and creating a spark. At the same instant you press the button, opening up the nozzle, and allowing the pressurized gas to come out the nozzle, and burning. The two weak points to the BIC lighter is the pressurized fuel, and the flint and steel. Losing the gas will make the lighter ineffective. Having your flint or steel go bad, or having your spark wheel rust up will make it impossible to ignite. Just a word of advice here you lovely lot: we would recommend keeping your firelighters natural if possible – especially if you are cooking or grilling. I went for the smaller box which was approximately 500 pieces for similar money compared to the Flamers Natural Firelighters For Woodburners, Stoves, Barbeques and Campfires. I also love that these ones don’t carry any kind of chemical smells which is great as the flame is odourless (and smokeless) and they don’t leave any smelly residue on your hands. Also a great option for the environment because they are made entirely of natural materials which is nice because I am fed up of my bbq smelling like an old paraffin light 😀 From opening the box, they seem bigger than average which is great so you only need one or two to start a fire.
